Umi is definitely the best sushi spot on the south side of Austin. Our waitress was incredibly friendly and personable, although her name slipped my mind. Their happy hour is a steal with great prices. Whether you're a local or just passing through, Umi is a must-visit!

I have been here a few times now, I enjoy when they have a DJ. It's never too crowded and overwhelming, always has a peace to it. Everyone is always incredibly friendly and prompt. Food is good. My son loves the practice support sticks that they provide.

This was our first time visiting after learning about the Happy Hour (4 - 6:30 PM) - which has a wide and impressively priced menu! Our waitress Nic was awesome, managing our large party of 10 and manning the bar simultaneously. She recommended the Who Dat roll, non-fried version, which was great. We also enjoyed the Rainbow Roll, Shaggy Dog Roll, and Spicy Tuna Tacos. We also tried a variety of drink specials, including the Pineapple and Lychee Sake (plus $1.95 Sake Bombs! Say Whaaaa?!) but our favorite was the Sake Sangria. We'll definitely be back!

Umi's happy hour is probably one of my favorite in Austin because (1) it's one of the few options available in South Austin, and (2) it has no claims to be something high quality. They have an exhaustive pan-Asian menu that will leave anyone looking for quantity over quality very satisfied. I don't anticipate anyone to be blown away by the food, but for ~$20 all-in to be fed a variety of Asian foods feels pretty good. Ambiance is decent - the building is a bit older now (I think Umi's been around for 20+ years and probably hasn't done any major renovations in like 10+ years) but everytime I've gone the servers have been attentive and solid.

Went for happy hour and it was super yummy. We ordered a bunch off the menu, the tuna tacos were the perfect size and tuna was fresh- it was my favorite of the evening. Shaggy dog was another favorite. I could have gone without the egg rolls. My husband ordered something with jalapeños, salmon, tuna and he said it was good and fresh as well. HH prices were great and the options on that menu were more than I had anticipated. We will be back again for sure. Our waitress was very attentive and friendly as well.

The food was great, we had a party of 6 and everyone loved their choices. I had the chicken katsu and California roll and the chicken was well cooked and the sauce was really nice. The California roll was good although it didn't have a bunch of crab in it. Our waitress, Natalie, was great and checked in a bunch to make sure we were happy; she was super helpful. The banana tempura was so good.

Sashimi (salmon, tai, escolar) 5/5 so fresh and tender Edamame 4/5 fresh and steamed well. Could use more salt Veggie tempura 5/5. I even ate the onions. I don't usually eat onion tempura because it is usually undercooked, these were great! The dipping sauce was good but heavy on the ginger. Miso soup 5/5 some of the best I had. So soothing. Very nice balance of flavor. Salad 3/5 iceberg lettuce with good Asian dressing. Nothing that would bring me back. Dumplings 4/5. Good not amazing. California roll 3/5 not bad but not great. Fried zucchini 2/5. It was fried fresh, but undercooked. We liked the tempura zucchini better. Spicy salmon roll 1/5 the salmon does not seem fresh. Unagi roll 5/5 good unagi and sauce

We've attempted to order from here for delivery and it's just not the same. While the actual place is an older building, it's clean and doesn't smell. The food comes out hot and fresh and there plenty parking because we love plaza restaurants. Our server was excellent even though two people didn't acknowledge us when we first came in. This is still my favorite fried rice in Austin. Sushi is decent, I will say our rolls had way too much eel sauce and it was super salty, so get yours on the side. Also, it's a little overpriced for a quick weekend lunch. We spent $80 on this. I just feel like for that amount of money there are better places to have great service, food and ambiance. May skip the rolls next time we visit because fried rice is fire!

This sushi spot is by far my favorite in Austin. And I'm happy that it happens to be in south austin where I live! First and foremost I love that this spot is open late most nights. We came in at 930 for sushi and it was just in time for their reverse happy hour which is incredible deal for what you get. We ordered appetizers, 3 types of rolls and 3 carafe of sake and it was less than $100. Also let's talk about the vibe in this restaurant. Love how they have DJs on Saturday night playing the best music, tons of valentines decorations and the servers are very hospitable. I feel like I'd enjoy working there with them haha. Overall recommend this spot for your sushi fix on any day.
